In laser metal deposition (LMD) a laser beam creates a small melt pool on the surface of the workpiece into which metal powder is fed. This produces a new layer that is metallurgically bonded to the base material.
The heat input is low and precisely controlled, so the heat-affected zone is narrow and distortion of the workpiece is minimal. Dilution between the deposited and base material is low, which allows high-quality layers in a single pass.
We use the process to restore worn or damaged parts such as hydraulic cylinder rods, shafts, rolls and sealing surfaces, and to protect surfaces against wear and corrosion. After deposition the part is machined to final size if required.
LMD ADVANTAGES
Why laser deposition
Strong bond between layer and base material
Minimal distortion of the workpiece
Lower costs and shorter lead times
