OVERVIEW
Deep penetration for heavy sections
Submerged arc welding (SAW) takes place beneath a layer of granular flux that completely covers the arc and the weld pool. The flux protects the weld from the atmosphere, forms slag and influences the weld chemistry, while the arc remains hidden – with no glare, radiation or spatter.
The process is mechanised and delivers high welding speeds, deep penetration and uniform welds of excellent quality. It is best suited to long straight or circumferential seams on thicker plates and tubes welded in the flat position.
SAW is also used for hardfacing and build-up welding, restoring the original dimensions of worn rolls, shafts and other machine parts and extending their service life.
Applications
- Heavy-wall structures
- Circumferential seams on tubes and shells
- Long longitudinal seams
- Build-up and reconditioning of rolls and shafts
- Heavy machine components
